The book Five Survive by Holly Jackson is a thriller and mystery about a group of six teenagers including 17 year old Red Kenny, and a group of her close friends. The group of six decide to go on a road trip for their spring break from Philadelphia to Gulf shores. Everything seemed to be going well until they took a wrong turn and ended up with a busted tire. The six think it was just a rock that caused the damage until they hear a loud gunshot within the darkness. They soon realize that this was no accident and that somebody out there wants one of them dead. With 8 hours until dawn, the shooter uses a walkie talkie to make contact with them from inside the RV. He gives the group instructions and reveals that one of them holds secret information that he wants discovered before the day comes. He wants whoever that person is to reveal themselves and step out of the RV. With nobody stepping up, the group's loyalty to each other is put to the test as they all soon come to realize, each one of them is holding on to a deep secret. As the secrets slowly come to be revealed we find out more about the characters and the terrors they held close with them. The group tries their best to conjure a plan of escape until the shooter reveals that there is another killer among them. As the violent accusations start to fly, the trust in one another disappears and the group starts to only rely on themselves and even starts to put their former friends in dangerous situations. Will the group find out this secret? Who is behind all this? What will the end before these friends and who really is the killer?
I really liked this book, there was so much suspense and many shocking moments in the book, especially when the secrets started to be revealed and a massive plot twist towards the end.
I think overall if you love mystery books or thrillers you would love this book. I would definitely recommend this book to others and it was a really enjoyable read.
