Fortitude by Dan Crenshaw (5/5)

Having a sense of humor during a stressful situation or being extremely tough despite hard challenges are some peoples dream traits, and for former Navy Seal Dan Crenshaw, these traits are just what he shares in his story, Fortitude. The author takes us through his view of life when he was at war in the middle east, when he lost his eye due to an explosion, and when he later joined the US congress. His determination

during these struggles really stood out to me as an example to my life and I feel would inspire others too. Many times during this book, the reader is approached with a new way of thinking and living and it truly opens up the reader’s eyes to the many ways to make the best of our short lives. The author focuses us on the world of today and its “era of outrage” and how our country is divided. There are tons of great quotes and messages in the text that can help the reader with this era of outrage issue, and also generally help you live better. For example, Life is too short to be outraged all of the time and if we live this more outraged lifestyle, we will be less happy. Another thing I love that the author did in this story was use military strategies and apply them to real life. I know this sounds extreme but they make sense when you think about it. One he talked about is WarGaming. WarGaming is basically a mindset when you're in battle that thinks ahead. “Where am I going to go when they start shooting at me” sort of thing. He teaches us readers how to use this strategy in our everyday lives and how to become a thinker and sayer rather than just a sayer. Through this WarGaming strategy we can think ahead of some of the possible situations and prepare our actions. He proves that thinking before you act can help you in your everyday lives and can even save your life. So should you read this book? Yes because I feel it gives a new perspective of looking at things that everyone could use. Being able to use military strategies in our lives constantly to improve them or save them is brilliant and I feel many people need this book as some sort of a guide. Fortitude by Dan Crenshaw was definitely a good read and I learned a new approach to life I feel will benefit me as I live.
