GioGio's Bizarre Adventure 2: Golden Heart, Golden Ring by Gichi Otsuka and Taro Miyasho (4/5)

The book is about Coniglio (Coni), an Italian 17-year-old who, after her grandmother died, moved from Rome to Venice to take her place as a hotel cleaner. However, she has an ability known as a “stand”, which is a physical manifestation of her soul. Her stand manifests in the form of a rabbit which can heal any person it comes into contact with. After a group of mafia members betrays their boss though, it all changes as she starts to become the target of multiple attacks by a mysterious “stand user” who seems to be able to spread a deadly virus that can kill people in seconds. However, her ability soon goes berserk after it is unable to release all the pain absorbed from an attack that nearly kills the entirety of Venice, during which Giorno Giovanna, Trish Una, Guido Mista, Bruno Bucciarati, and Narancia Ghirga, who are characters from the original series, fight multiple enemy stand users to save the city from the hidden rule of the resourceful mafia boss Sogliola Lopez. In the end, Coni ends up stopping her stand and saving the city before moving to America to put her past behind her.

I thought this was a great book, although the ending was a bit rushed. The main character, Coni, was really well fleshed out, and you can tell the author really loved Venice, with scenic imagery that enraptures the mind’s eye. The fight scenes are great, and the occasional pictures add a sense of seriousness to each scene, due to their rarity. You develop connections with all the cast members, and every death feels real. Coni develops quite well, originally being scared to use her power due to her being cast away from society due to her ability, but she slowly realizes the good she can do and how to properly use her ability to protect the people around her.

Overall, the book was a great read, although it ended quickly. If I had anything to say, I would say that it should be read slowly, as it is, admittedly, quite short. But it is a great, action-packed novel with beautiful artwork and amazing descriptions that still keep you on your toes.
