Mental health is a real struggle for Charlie Davis. Girl in Pieces is a fictional stand-alone written by Kathleen Glasgow. Charlie Davis, the main character, has struggled a lot with her mental health. She deals with intrusive thoughts about self-harm and suicide. This book highlights the ups and downs of Charlie’s journey to a happier and healthier life. I enjoyed this book because it was very insightful and helps people understand what is going on in people with mental health issues heads. It goes in-depth on Charlie’s struggles and everything she has to overcome on a daily basis. I really enjoyed how the author described each of the characters in such detail that it was almost like you knew them. One thing about this book that wasn’t my favorite is that at some points, it wasn’t obvious what was going on and you would have to infer what had happened. Also, although there is one main plot, a lot of things are going on on the side that takes away from the main plot, and not necessarily in a good way. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what it’s like to live with mental illness.
