Half Bad by Sally Green (4/5)

Half Bad takes place in a hidden fantasy world in England. However, the focus is not upon the magic and it's about the plight of a boy named Nathan. In this world, White Witches are integrated into society and hunt black witches who they claim are violent savages. Nathan is born to a White Witch mother and a Black Witch father so throughout his life he has been watched, caged and hunted by White Witches. The story follows Nathan as he grows up and deals with his challenges. The book spends a lot of time in the present and the current situation and not a lot of time on the past or future. And both my praise and critique stems from this feature. I enjoy reading the details and getting to read lots of new situations with different dynamics. But it does feel like the plot is meandering, as if each part were written without a larger plan. I think most people can find some enjoyment in this book, but I would recommend this to people who like a book focused on a single character. I wouldn’t recommend this book to someone who wants a grand plot or plan. Overall, I rate this book a ⅘ because I was not particularly wowed, but I did thoroughly enjoy reading.
