The novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowlings, takes place in a mirror world of our own where a small minority of humans possess magical abilities. Harry, the story’s protagonist, is born a wizard, but after losing his parents at a young age, he is moved to the Dursley house, which is a normal “muggle” household. Despite being related by blood, he is treated miserably and any magic he has in him is oppressed. After about a decade, he is old enough to go to Hogwarts, one of many schools for wizards and witches to train their magical abilities. While there, Harry learns how to use his magic, but also what it is like to have friends and people that care about him. Throughout Harry’s first year, he proves to be a talented wizard as he is one of the lucky few to be recruited to the Gryffindor quidditch team as a year one. After an exquisite first year, Harry learns that someone has infiltrated the castle and has been sabotaging his every move. Harry needs to find whoever it is and their plans or else the dark lord will be brought back. After finishing the book, I felt very satisfied with the ending, it wasn't rushed, but mainly, it wasn’t a cliff hanger that would force me to read the other nine books. I also liked how Harry, a seemingly defenseless little kid, is able to take out and eradicate all of these threats that put the entire school in a form of lock down with the help of his friends. One of Harry’s closest friends throughout the series, Hermione, grew up with normal humans. Despite being born into a family with zero knowledge on magic, Hermione demonstrates an extensive knowledge on spells before even arriving at the school. I felt that this shows the duality of the muggles in this world, some are willing to accept magic into their lives, others attempt to squash it and get rid of it. Finally, the book ends with each of the main characters showing off their core aspects and a final plot twist was very unforeseen. Overall, I thought the book was very entertaining and easy to read. I had watched the movies before reading so I knew what was going to happen, but the book was still enjoyable as it goes into greater detail about what is happening. I would definitely recommend reading the books as it has an amazing plot and finish.
