Hatchet is a Novel written by Gary Paulsen about Brian, a 13 year old boy who crashed in a forest in canada on a plane to his dad’s house. The item on him is a hatchet and for 54 days learns to adapt to the land and survive. But when Brian is rescued he comes home and is bombarded by the news and police. He enjoys his fame and being back home but grows to hate it. I felt the book was extremely interesting and brought thoughtful insight about growing up and what a kid goes through when his parents are no longer together. The book is sprinkled with many details about nature and survival tactics, but at some points it can get dark. One of the main plot points is Brian's parents who divorced. Throughout the book Brian is always talking about it, so if you plan on reading the book and struggle with that then that could be an issue.
