The celebrated novel, Hatchet Is a great book for those looking for an action-packed and suspenseful read. Gary Paulsen’s Newbery Award-winning book constantly grabs your attention with eventful scenes and unexpected events making it very enjoyable to read. The book follows a thirteen-year-old boy named Brian whose parents had divorced only in the previous month. I found the book to be very good and I was sometimes so immersed in the reading that it seemed like I was there with Brian.
Hatchet follows a boy named Brian Robeson who is on his way to see his newly divorced father. On the plane to northern Canada, the pilot of Brian’s flight suffers a heart attack causing him to not be able to operate the plane. Brian is forced to crash land the plane after running through the remaining fuel in the plane. Throughout the rest of the book, Brian is faced with many difficult challenges while stranded in what seems like the middle of nowhere. The book hooks the reader in when describing Brian’s wilderness experiences and the misfortunes that he encounters.
I thoroughly enjoyed the short read and think that Paulsen did a great job grabbing the reader’s attention with the constant action. I would highly recommend this book to those looking for a fictional novel that they will not want to put down. The book was very entertaining and I would personally put it in my top ten of favorite books. I gave the book a 5/5 rating because of the constant immersive experiences, and the feeling of being on the journey with Brian.
