Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas (4/5)

As the third book of a series, this may be a bit confusing, but the book was amazing so I recommend you read this review. The main character, Celaena Sardothien, is very interesting and complex but she shows good character development. If you are interested in a female lead/narrator who is an assassin in a fantasy world of magic, fae, and battling kingdoms, this may be your book series. In this third book, Celaena has just been shipped away to a foreign land and she runs into a Fae man who demands she go with him. Turns out, she has to train with this man, and neither of them is too happy about it. Rowan, the faeish man, is ordered to do so under a blood pact and Celaena only agrees so that she can take back the kingdom that is rightfully hers, and destroy another. The king has magical keys that can stop magic and destroy it, and Celaena's job is to make sure that he doesn’t get all three keys. Meanwhile, her friends, Dorian, the prince, and Chaol, the captain of the king's guard, are left behind to do some investigating of their own. Celaena struggles at first with Rowan and Chael and Dorian’s relationship is strained, since they both love her and Chaol is trying to protect his prince. This is also a very good enemy to lovers' book, a common trope that many readers appreciate and love.

I thought the book was very well written and drawn out. It went at a good pace and the author did a good job of switching perspectives between characters. Read this book if fantasy, enemies to lovers, and a bit of angst is what you like to read. This book illustrates good imagery but isn’t confusing.
