“I’m Glad My Mom Died” is a revolutionary autobiography written by famous actor Jennette McCurdy. Many have seen and even grown up with McCurdy with shows such as iCarly, Sam and Cat, and many more. Although McCurdy seemed to have the teenage dream, her autobiography widens your perspective on what really went on behind the perfect image seen on television. “I’m Glad My Mom Died” seems to have so many messages and themes behind it but what seems to appear the most is identity. Throughout the book McCurdy goes into gritty detail of the struggles she had with various issues such as substance abuse and self harm. McCurdy describes the hardship she experiences with her own mother and the toxic household McCurdy was raised in. McCurdy spoke on how hard it was to let go of someone who was so close to her yet hurt her the most. McCurdy dives head first into an ocean of problems she had even from a young age all up until she is a grown adult. This novel really drew out my emotion and gave me a whole new look, and understanding of a struggle I have never experienced. I felt as though I was going through the waves of pain McCurdy had gone through herself. This book is raw and heartfelt all woven together. Once I finished the book it had made me reflect and realize just how hard growing up in a toxic environment may affect someone. McCurdy’s autobiography changed my opinions completely on the understanding of how much the environments you are in, and or surround yourself with shapes you to who you are. I would recommend this book to anyone that needs a book to make them think for a while. This book speaks of heavy topics such as substance abuse, self harm, abuse, and more if any of these topics trigger you, I would not recommend this book. McCurdy wrote her autobiography with such perfection and raw emotion that you could feel each situation as if you were living it as well. “I'm Glad My Mom Died” is one of the best autobiographies I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. |
