If We Were Villians by M.L. Rio (4/5)

Suddenly you are spending 10 years of your life in prison, for a crime you may or not have committed. The novel, If We Were Villians, is about the unexpected change of events when actors of the Dellecher Shakespear Academy are confined to the very different roles they relate. Oliver Marks, one of these students, starts to notice that his classmates are playing their new characters not only onstage but offstage as well, spiraling into dangerous play over actual life. When a sudden tragedy strikes among one of the seven friends, they have to convince the police that they are innocent, facing their most challenging act yet.

In reading this book, I loved the constant referral back to Shakespear because it offered a different structure to other novels. As well as the differences in each of the seven character’s personalities helped develop the overall plot. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery and fiction because it is a thrilling novel about a sudden change of events.
