"Inspiring”, “Clever”, “Incredible”, these are all words that Michael Crichton says to himself while staring at his reflection in the mirror every morning. Unfortunately, I have a few choice words for his lackluster sequel to the groundbreaking “Jurassic Park”. Jurassic Park: The Lost World takes place on an island infested with dinosaurs and if you read the first book, you’ve read this book. Unfortunately, Michael Crichton was not able to replicate the first book’s success, as this book is utterly horrible. It is a carbon copy of the first book, and to summarize it would be to summarize them both. The characters are nigh identical to the first book’s with one notable difference: Rather than being somewhat like real people, they act like cardboard cutouts, literal stereotypes. I personally will never read this book again, and were it not for the first book I would swear off of Michael Crichton as a whole. My recommendation to future readers? Don’t read the book.
