Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger (5/5)

Did you ever feel like you didn’t fit in; or as your whole life felt wrong? Keeper of the Lost Cities captures just this feeling of abnormalcy that many feel and takes it even further. Staged in San Diego where Sophie the main character lives with her family, we discover a very important secret. Sophie is a telepath. Her whole mind was filled with thoughts of those around her. They were very loud sometimes very alarming too. She just couldn’t stop them though. Headaches had become the norm for her due to the fact even when she was sleeping it was never quiet. Although this wasn’t the only strange thing about Sophie. She was also unusually smart. Processing a photographic memory she barely had to study and was in fact in high school as a senior when she was only twelve years old. This made it very hard for her to fit in due to the fact that she was so advanced. One day when she was on a trip to the San Diego Natural History Museum she met an odd boy with unusually good looks. Whether it was his clothes that were off or his very blue eyes Sophie wasn’t sure but she knew something was definitely off. But one thing that struck Sophie is that she couldn’t hear his thoughts. She found this rather refreshing about him. But it wasn’t till the second time Sophie met Fitz that she trusted the information he disclosed to her and went on a journey with him which would allow her to find her true identity.

I honestly thought it was an amazing book. Even though it’s a bit longer it is well worth it. There wasn’t a moment I wasn’t on the edge of my seat. On every page, something new was revealed. I found out the 9th book was just released also and I have a lot of reading till I get there but I can’t wait. It is written for a younger audience I believe and if fiction isn’t really what you’re into it’s understandable that you wouldn’t want to read it. Personally, I think that even if heavy fiction isn’t your thing you should definitely look into it because what better way to unleash your inner child than expanding your imagination?
