Keeper of the Lost Cities: Legacy by Shannon Messenger (4/5)

If you think about the classical fairy tales we know and love from our childhood, it's impossible to believe that they could actually exist but in this world they are. As the 8th book in Shannon Messenger’s best-selling series, Keeper of the Lost Cities, Legacy is still just as attention-capturing as the earlier books. Its breathtaking imagery, relatable characters, and captivating overarching story add to the teen appeal, suspense, and fantasy element of the series. The main character who possesses many different abilities Sophie finds out her friend Tam has been kidnapped by the villain organization called the Neverseen who plan to use Tam’s power of controlling shadows to take down the society of the Lost Cities. This is a place where many different races of beings such as elves, dwarves, and goblins live together in harmony, for the most part. Unbeknownst to humans, this civilization is hidden on earth and the fairy tales we see today have been glimpses of this world caught by humans. During this book, Sophie and her friends have to face responsibility, heartbreak, and betrayal while fighting evil but still trying to grow up as teenagers with a variety of powers. As someone who loves reading but tends to get bored of repetition and plot holes, this book is perfect. The series has good worldbuilding and a solid story that is a constant attention grabber. The only reason I would not rate this book a 5 out of 5 is that it would not appeal to some people for its long-winded nature and a few points in the story that were a bit redundant. In conclusion, this book was a truly enjoyable read and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys stories of fantasy with some mystery and romance sprinkled in.
