Kira - Kira by Cynthia Kadohata (4.5/5)

Being Japanese and living in the deep, rural south in the 1950s was extremely difficult. With the narration of a young girl named Katie who is a part of the Takeshima family, you will get insight into one families’ bond and struggle with fitting into society. I enjoy how the author used the hardships the family went through to help build a loving and close relationship full of hope. Each reminds one another to never give up and always see the light of tomorrow. The author creates an emotional feeling toward the readers, easily entrancing you into the story. I recommend this book to readers who are looking for a sorrowful, but loving and passionate mood, and for those who can also learn and/or relate to the social ranking and discrimination for being of a different race.
