Looking for Alaska by John Green (5/5)

Imagine meeting someone who takes hold of your entire life and changes it in the most compelling way. Published in 2005, Looking for Alaska, John Green’s first novel written, displays this situation with 16-year-old Miles Halter, who had just moved to a boarding school in the middle of Florida. The main character Miles grasps his new change by spontaneously meeting his new roommate Chip, and friend Alaska. Alaska impacts Miles in many romantic and influential ways, shaping how he views the world in general.

This book truly gave me a new perspective on how valuable life really is, and how impactful certain people in my life can be. The sudden turn of events that takes place in the middle of the book changes the tone completely in an extremely emotional way. This change made me enjoy this book so much more due to how the author illustrated the emotions of the characters so well. I would recommend this novel to anyone who wants to experience much emotion, laughter, and heartbreak, and to open their eyes to an influential view on life. The captivating plot and extraordinary characters presented in Looking for Alaska genuinely deserve a 5/5 rating for the novel’s powerful impact.
