Losing someone you love deeply is one of the hardest things. Oakley cherished her brother Lucas. She knew that he was slowly dying, but when it came to his last breath, Oakley was in shock. Cancer took her best friend. She just simply couldn’t imagine a world without him in it. The weeks following the death of Lucas were a dark time for Oakley. She and her mother decide to visit Aunt Jo in California in hopes that it will lift their spirits and help them adjust to this new chapter in their lives. In California, Oakley is given a journal. It is filled with letters from Lucas that he wrote to Oakley before he passed. His words of reassurance help Oakley to see that it’s ok to move on and find people and experiences that make her happy again. Love came sooner than she thought. Carson and Oakley’s chemistry goes unmatched. He truly gets her and is the reason she is able to move on with her life. When challenges arise, Carson is right by her side. Lucas may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. He guides Oakley to become a better person and live the life he didn’t get a chance to have. This novel is one of my favorites. It allows the reader to know that it’s ok to grieve and feel empty but indicates the importance of moving on and healing. Love, Lucas is written in a way that is easy to read, yet covers a topic that can be hard for many to talk about. If you are looking for a novel that takes you away from reality, and into the shoes of someone else, then this is the book for you.
