Making Friends with Alice Dyson (3/5)

This book covers the story of someone who was never really seen at school. Alice Dyson kept to herself, mainly focused on academics, and was more of a shadow than a person according to her peers. That all changes when one day a viral video of her and Teddy Taulai. As they are from very different social circles, Alice is thrown into the spotlight and gets to experience more than just pressure from her mother. Alice has a difficult relationship with her parents is shown through the book but she decides to break free from their views of what she should be and experience more life. I liked this book a lot. It was wholesome to watch the characters slowly come together and work everything out. I thought it was a cute story with dramatic moments that tied in really well. I think his book could advance a lot more if it focused more on Alice’s home life. It sets her parents up as constantly setting standards for perfect grades but it doesn’t really dive into their past. I would've liked to know what Alice’s childhood was like and how she got into that rocky relationship with her parents.
