Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune (4/5)

The novel, Meet Me at the Lake, is from Fern Brookbanks point of view. Every chapter goes back and forth between twenty-two year old Fern and thirty-two year old Fern. The main story is about the contrast between how Fern met Will Baxter while working at a coffee shop as a young adult and how they unexpectedly reconnected ten years later. When they first met, they spent their entire day exploring Toronto together because they were both leaving for home sometime in the following week. They deeply connected in many ways that day, but they were both seeing other people, which made their relationship complicated. They planned to meet again a year later from that day at the Brookbanks Resort, which Fern’s family owned, but Will never showed up. Fern was crushed and constantly questioned why Will didn’t meet her and what their relationship could have entailed. Years go by and Fern is brought back to the resort to work as the owner when her mother unexpectedly passes away. Fern has to decide whether she wants to keep the resort or sell it. Plus, Will shows up at the resort because he made an arrangement to work with Fern’s mother as a consultant. Fern is shocked to see him after so long and they have to work together to help the resort prosper better. Each time Fern and Will are together they have an unexplainable attraction and pull to each other. They find comfort and trust in each other, while also positively helping each other to make important life decisions. Fern is still devastated from her mothers death, so she feels more connected to her mom when reading her mothers dairies from before Fern’s birth. Will is only staying at the resort to work with Fern and take a vacation, which makes Fern worry about how wrecked she will be when he leaves. Unsure about her future but completely dedicated to Will Baxter, Fern decides to display her true feelings to Will. The only question is, will they end up together or will they be separated just as they were ten years ago? I enjoyed reading Meet Me at the Lake! Any student that likes reading romance novels should definitely read this one! It has a very drawing storyline and it also includes cute and funny comments. I found the book very compelling to keep reading. It's also important to keep in mind that there is some young-adult content that not everyone may be comfortable with reading.
