Michael Vey: The Parasite by Richard Paul Evans is book eight in the Michael Vey series, which is important to note as the plot is a continuation of the previous seven books. I would recommend starting and reading through the series from book one in order to gain a better understanding of the characters and the surroundings before book eight.
Michael Vey and his friends have seemingly put their violent pasts behind them, struggling to transition into a normal life after finally taking down the head of the evil Elgen corporation. However, new threats arise when a family reunion goes awry; two of their closest friends have been kidnapped by unknown forces and another is spending time with the wrong people, causing them to fear for his safety. These unknown forces are aware of Michael Vey and his friends’ supernatural abilities. It is now up to Michael Vey and his friends (the Electroclan, as they call themselves) to save their friends and combat these new evils that are even more dangerous than before.
This book was released several years after I had finished the last book in the series that was published. I needed to familiarize myself again with the characters and setting in order to understand this continuation. However, I very much enjoyed this book because of its nostalgia factor in addition to the story itself. I found it a very engaging plot with clear, understandable dialogue from each character. It was a relatively easy read as it is targeted towards a middle school reading level, but the plot was still enjoyable to me. I followed all of the characters with great anticipation as I read on to see what happened next. The end contained a very unexpected plot twist that caught me off-guard, and I am looking forward to the next book to be released!
