Mockingjay by Suzzane Collins was an okay book. Nothing to great about it, and definitely not as good as the first and second Hunger games books. Which makes sense sinse the sequels are never as good as the first but I think that Collins could have done better with this book. In the beginning of the book it is pretty slow, with Katniss figuring out what had happened to her. That is about 3 chapters into the book. Although this section is slow it does help the reader understand what has happened in the previous book which is a good thing for readers who have not read the first and second books but I would still recommend reading those first. After Katniss has figured out what is going on, she must decide if she wants to be the mockingjay image for the rebelion which is another 3-4 chapters and during this time the book is also slow. Up until Gale goes to try and save Peeta the book is slow but after that it picks up the pace and remains that way. Although that is a little less than midway through the book. If I had to rate this I would give it a 3 out of 5 stars because the story line is interesting but slow up until midway, there is a few good surprising twists, and because it is fun to watch Katniss decipher Snow’s plan. This book is pretty dramatic for any drama lovers that want to read a book about star crossed lovers. It is also somewhat political but not in a way that decides for you but for you to think for yourself which I thought was a nice touch by Collins. I personally don’t really read for fun unless it is non-fiction but I do not regret reading this book. I am a quite a rather slow reader but I was able to read this book in about 3 weeks so if you read fast you could probably finish it in 1-2 weeks. I read 20 pages during the week and usually 80 pages on the weekend, just to give you an idea on how much I read and how fast. I do recommend this book for anyone who likes to read fiction books if you don’t like to read fiction then you probably won’t enjoy it but I feel that most people who read enjoy to read books in general will definitely enjoy this read.
