With his curiosity, he decides to begin an investigation to try and solve the mystery of Ratchet’s murder. The first thing he does is interview everyone on the train and see if any of the passengers have valuable information. The initial investigation is very confusing, as the passengers all seem to have solid alibis, but also have one clue that makes them look guilty. As Poirot examines clues such as strange watches and creepy letters, several theories arise. Each theory seems plausible, but some of the evidence does not fit. The detective's meticulous attention to detail and ability to piece together seemingly unrelated elements keeps the reader engaged and entertained around. In the end, Poirot joins all the passengers and offers two possible explanations, one technically possible but highly unlikely, and the other revealing the real truth Surprisingly, he decides against traditional notions of justice and morality. He insists that a murderer or murderer’s is not an inherently bad person. With his deep understanding of human nature, Poirot chooses to allow them to escape, a decision that makes a lasting impression.
