#NoEscape by Gretchen Mcneil (4/5)

Ten million dollars. This is the potential prize of the world's hardest escape room, however with a great prize comes great risk. #NoEscape is the 3rd volume of the #MurderTrending series. Written by Gretchen Mcneil in 2020, #NoEscape follows a desperate girl, Persey, who is constantly insulted by her parents due to the often comparisons to her smarter and more successful big brother. Persey isn’t the best in school as she gets looked down upon for her horrible grades. In spite of that, it is revealed that Persey has a hidden talent for escape rooms, as she finishes her first escape room in record time. This shocks the escape room instructors, causing them to invite Persey to the esteemed Escape Capades All-Star Competition. In hope of leaving her home life for the ten million cash prize, Persey accepts the invitation with her new friend Kevin, who she met in the escape room. As she arrives at the escape room, she meets her teammates, Neela, Kevin, and other ego-fueled prodigies. As the escape room goes on, different rooms seem challenging, but that’s not what's on Persey’s mind. Throughout the escape room, Persey can’t take her mind off the eerie feeling it gives off, foreshadowing the future difficulties coming ahead. In reality, it comes as a surprise that the escape room may not be the safe and fun escape room all contestants thought it may be. I honestly believe that this was a fun thriller with lots of unexpected plot twists. I enjoyed the horror aspect of this book and the underdog story that Persey portrayed. Out of 5 stars, I would give this book 4 stars as it was a pleasant read for me. However, I do believe that the pacing of the story was slow at times. All in all, I would totally recommend this book to anyone that's a fan of the thriller or horror genre.
