Radio Silence is a thoroughly engaging read that captures many difficult topics in a way that truly shows what it is like being a teen. The witty modern humor, which some might feel is cringy, instead adds a real sense that most readers can connect with. The story is told in first-person point of view by a 17-old Francis Janvier who is trying to deal with classwork, friends, and her hobby of art. Together with her friend Aled, they take on aging into a young adult, dealing with parents, figuring out love, and many other tasks. Through the story, there are flashbacks that dig deeper into her past, as well as a collection of fun lovable characters. The book is filled with plot twists and a friendship that everyone can envy. My reaction to the book was surprise and awe at just how well Alice Oseman captured the emotions page after page. It filled me with joy, especially the aspect of the LGBTQ+ characters, which was relatable from many points of view. My advice to other readers is to pay close attention to the characters and hidden details, due to the constant surprising twists. In conclusion, though, I think this is a must-read for everyone in search of a comfort book that can be read over and over.
