Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline (5/5)

Ernest Cline’s sequel book, Ready Player Two, to the hit Ready Player one, is an amazing comedic, dystopian book that offers new villains, ideas, technology, and comedic value. It definitely lives up to the legacy of the award-winning book-turned-movie, Ready Player One. The book once again centers on Wade Owen Watts, the poor OASIS gamer turned billionaire competing in another scavenger hunt competition that ends in death and triumph. The story is set in the year 2045 and the population of Earth has hidden away in a virtual reality platform called the OASIS. Meanwhile, the real world is being destroyed due to overpopulation and a lack of care for the environment. Wade Watts discover the ONI, which interfaces with the user's brain and allows said user to feel like they’re actually inside of whatever program they boot up while being essentially in a coma in the real world. The effects of this new form of technology and a new scavenger hunt, billion-dollar contest paired with real-life kidnapping, drama, and action make for an exciting story that I really enjoyed reading.
