Rescued by Eliot Schrefer (2/5)

One day, your father comes home with a surprise for you and the family. He has a small cardboard box with little holes on the top. You hurry to open the present and find a little hand grabbing your finger. At first, you take a step back in fear but then you see what is in the box and see a baby orangutan. Eliot Schrefer is the author of the novel Rescued. This book is about a young boy who has a pet orangutan. His father brought this animal home when he was working in a foreign country. Over the years, he built a very close relationship with this orangutan. It was hard taking care of him at first but then the family got used to it and grew to love him. A couple of years later, the boy is a teenager and his parents just got divorced. The mom does not want to take care of the orangutan and the dad does not have enough money to take care of it. The family has to let go of the orangutan and find a place for it to live, while trying to get over their feelings for it. They must overcome obstacles to find a place for it to live because they were not supposed to have it in the first place. I did not like this book too much because the plot was not very interesting in my opinion. The story was not bad at first but after about 100 pages it got boring and I had to force myself to read it. It seemed as if the plot could not change much or get any more interesting after that point. Overall, I would not recommend this book to other readers because of the uninteresting plot.
