Ruin and Rising is a fantasy fiction book, written by Leigh Bardugo that is the third book and final book to the Shadow and bone trilogy. Ruin and Rising was published back on June 17th, 2014 with 411 pages that are about ending the past and current problems that surround the setting of Ruin and rising that have been haunting Alina Starkov and many, many others. Since the 2nd book, Siege and Storm, Alina Starkov changed as everything around her has changed in a way that made her feel lost, isolated, and powerless. Many other characters like Mal Oretsev, Nikolai lantsov, Zoya Nazyalensky, Genya Safin, stand beside Alina to help defeat the darkling and his army of Grisha and Nichevo'ya. Ruin and Rising is definitely a memorable book as it is the last book of the Shadow and bone trilogy. This final book brings an end to a story for some of the characters, it was definitely intriguing to read this book to see how all of these big problems of fighting for power, believing what they do is the right thing and actually doing the right thing, will end. Through the course of reading the book, there are some moments/events that happened that reveal the past of the darkling and reveals information about other characters that completely caught me off guard. The plot twist of the book completely caught me off guard, it was just something that I never would have thought and it took me a minute to really realize what I had just read. This book is about an ongoing war, everything in the process is being destroyed but if you really think about this book and what the message is, it's about not giving up to do the right thing. “He was no warrior, but he’d still found a way to fight for her” (Bardugo 269). In this final book, there are citizens who weren't physically prepared as others to fight in the war, they didn’t have that advantage but they still did their part in trying to help in any way to have a better life.
