Scythe by Neil Shusterman (3/5)

Scythes are used in an apocalyptic age where human beings can no longer die. They are simply revived and continue to live life without aging. Scythes are human beings who are immune to death and are challenged with the duty of killing and continuing the natural laws. Citra and Rowan are two kids who fall under the same apprenticeship of training to become a Scythe. With its many benefits, also come numerous downfalls. As the book continues, the stakes rise, as to who will be chosen as the Scythe.

Scythe was recommended to me by the masses, and I felt the need to read it with how well-mentioned it appeared. Overall, the book was alright at most. I found some of the parts very interesting and fast-paced as well as the imagery astonishing. However, most of the book was slow and it seemed to continue for far too long. I wouldn’t recommend this book unless you are very fond of sci-fi fiction.
