She was locked in that one concrete room for 264 days. She went 264 days without saying a word, much less, human contact. The author Tahereh Mafi wrote this book called Shatter Me back in 2011 and rocked the globe. This book is part of a series compiled of 11 books all written by Mafi. It all starts showing Juliette and how she is silently suffering in her small cell underground. She has the power to suck the life of people with just a single touch, no one knows why. No matter how much physical and physiological damage she has endured she always thinks back to the white and gold bird that gives her hope in the hardest times. One day, there is a pounding at the door with a new roommate after so long. It's a boy. She recollects of her broken childhood and remembers fragments of his face from so long ago. She is cold at first but soon they become friends after his multiple attempts and escape from their nightmare. They get closer and closer as they run from the law and the tyrannical leader chases after them and her forbidden touch. The constant thoughts Julliete battles are crossed out in the book and it portrays her mental struggle really well. I would definitely recommend this book to the right reader because I'm not much of a person to sit down with a book but this book changed that. Shatter Me always kept me interested in the story.
