Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi (4/5)

This dystopian, sci-fi, romance, is a page-turner with a unique writing style and captivating characters. The book was written by Tahereh Mafi author of other bestsellers including Furthermore and Witchwood. Shatter me follows the story of Juliette Ferrars in a dystopian future society. In this desolate dystopian society, Juliette has the power to kill by just touching a person. The new authority in this world the Reestablishment sees opportunities in Juliette's power even though she views it as more of a curse than a gift. They want to use her as a weapon and see this gift of hers as an opportunity. Throughout her experiences, she meets new people who both help her and who are against her including being reunited with the one person who ever cared about her. This book utilizes a unique style and format of writing to convey Juliette’s story in a more personal sense. The book is written like a diary of her mind with lines of her thoughts scratched out in pencil next to what she actually says or does. The series follows her tumultuous life in this apocalyptic future society with powers that in her eyes she would be better off without. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to explore new styles and to fans of dystopian and sci-fi romance.
