Sleeping Freshman Never Lie By: David Lubar (5/5)

Sleeping Freshman Never Lie by David Lubar is a young-adult fiction about how one's actions can affect somebody. Scott Hudson, a boy who starts his first year of high school finds out his parents are going to have another baby. His first day of high school was confusing and wished he had someone to give him advice, so he wrote a survival notebook with things he had learned through his freshman journey. He reunites with an old friend from kindergarten who has gotten prettier over the summer causing Scott to fall head over heels for her. He did whatever he could to impress her, even if it meant going up in front of the school to run for student council. He also had his two friends by his side until one moved and one left to be with his other friends. Scott also has his older brother Bobby who moved back in. Their mother fell and had to go to the hospital, while they were at the hospital Bobby left because of all of the stress. Throughout the story, he meets this unique girl named Lee who gets bullied a lot just because she has green hair black clothing, and a lot of face piercings. Scott talks to her a couple of times throughout the book asking her about poems and they slowly become friends. In the end, Scott figures out high school and meets his new baby sibling. I really liked this book since I related to the book a lot, I lost some friends and made some new ones as well as being nervous about starting high school. The story talks a lot about bullying, depression, and an attempt at suicide. After reading the book I realized that the things mentioned in the book, really do happen in high school like, losing friends and making new ones, bullying people for what they look like and so many other problems that David Lubar mentioned. This has been one of the best books I’ve read all year. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a good high school story.
