Star Wars: Thrawn by Timothy Zahn (5/5)

Timothy Zahn’s Star Wars: Thrawn Is the first of three books in the Thrawn series. Throughout the book, we watch as Thrawn earns promotion after promotion, reaching the rank of Grand Admiral. Although his translator, Eli Vanto, is unhappy at first with his new assignment because of possible effects on his future, he soon realizes that Thrawn isn’t just any alien. Thrawn is a military genius. He is able to overcome any challenge thrown his way. Throughout the story we see Thrawn and Eli learn from each other. Thrawn teaches Eli military tactics and leadership skills, while Eli introduces Thrawn to the world of politics. From the start of his naval career, Thrawn’s nemesis is a rebel known as “Nightswan”. Thrawn encounters him many times, but he evades capture every time. I found this book to be interesting and memorable. The character development of the main characters was very interesting. The antagonist is an interesting character, as he isn’t necessarily bad. He just chose to be on a different side during the war. Both Thrawn and Nightswan only use violence as a last resort, preferring to work out problems using logic. I rated this book five stars because of its plot, and unique character development. Without prior knowledge of the Star Wars universe, you may be confused by parts of this book, but it is entertaining with or without.
