Steel Ball Run (5/5)

Steel Ball Run follows the story of a race across the America of the 1800s, through horse or through running. It follows the story of Gyro Zeppeli, a foreigner trying to earn money to save a boy’s life, and Johnny Joestar, a retired horseback rider who wants to learn of a special fighting style known as Spin. Gyro and his family use this spin to “spin” steel balls into the air that can be used for a variety of reasons. The race that they follow through comes across a very set path, designed by the president of the United States. For reasons I shouldn’t spoil, he wants to make sure everything goes to plan. There are other main characters too, like a Native American who is powerful enough to run with his bare feet and keep up with the horses. He wants to buy his tribe’s land back from white people. There is a man who has been blessed with 2 months of luck, and he just wants the giant cash reward the race offers, 50 million dollars. Everyone is going after this, and the race is very intense and dangerous for it. I found this read very interesting, as it is the 7th iteration of the series, therefore you should know what to expect when reading it. You know how the character arcs form, and you know what usually happens to the main characters. Also, I found it very interesting that for being in the 1800s, it feels very “modern”, with modern money count, modern items, and more. Also, the way they implement “stands” into this iteration feels very good and would probably be most like the how we would use them in our day to day lives. I recommend that future readers read this either first or very later depending on where they want to start with the full series, because the 7th “part” is actually a brand new timeline, or universe, so you could technically start there. I would recommend to start with the beginning “timeline” first so you can find all the hidden details that they use in the 7th part. It is a very good read, and I am excited to read the 8th and soon to be done 9th part.
