Story Thieves by James Riley (4/5)

A boy watches, as one of his classmates, Bethany, jump out of a book within the library in which he was hanging out and doing homework. This boy was Owen who was obsessed with books and wished as if he could live in them, unlike his plain and boring life. Bethany, who’s half fictional and half-real, is looking for her fictional father. In this ordeal, Bethany makes a deal with Owen to enter his favorite book in exchange for not telling anyone her secret as well as giving her another opportunity to look for her father. All goes well until Owen messes with the book’s story attempting to be the big hero showing as he already knows what happens next.

The book had a unique concept to it. It was simple, easy to follow, and had likable characters. I enjoyed the read and it got right into the conflict and explained how exactly everything spiraled down into it. The book is a good 416 pages long which made it not too short, but not too long either, however, having four sequels to continue off the series. It’s an enjoyable read and also kept up the action where it needed. The only flaw given would be the fact of the conflict lasting for a long period of time within the book.

In the end, the book is a great quick read to pass the time, with adventure and cool concepts implemented. For future readers, really focus on character development and the setting because it’ll help you get emersed and feel like you’re right there with them. If you want more afterward, there are more continuations within the sequels bringing the same impact and concepts as the first.
