If you are looking for a book filled with comedy, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is the right book for you!
This book tells a story about an Indian boy named Junior that lives on an Indian reservation (also known as the rez) born with a high amount of medical problems. This caused him to have many bullies, and for him not to love his life living at the rez. His whole life changed when he decided to go to a school outside the rez, a white people's school. While having trouble fitting in at school, everyone back at the rez would call him a traitor and would heavily tease him for going to a white school, including his best friend Rowdy. This book describes the challenges that Junior faces at school and at his home along with the struggles of being super poor.
I think this book was very entertaining and funny. It was a really fun book to read and at every point in the book, never uninteresting. The cartoons in the book supported the comedic feature of the book and helped tell the story in a funny way. Some parts of the book gave awareness to those suffering from poverty and helped you understand their struggles. In some parts, the dialogue was harder to understand, but the plot was well thought out and written in an enjoyable way. Overall, with the book’s highs and lows, when it was happy or sad, it was always entertaining.
Junior's sense of humor and cartoons in this book make it a page-turning comedy that anyone can enjoy. It may stand out to younger readers more because it was easy and quick to read.
