The Agathas by Kathleen Glasgow and Liz Lawson (4/5)

This book follows the perspectives of two girls named Alice and Iris, these girls could not be more different, Alice was a very smart, quiet girl, and liked to remain invisible to most of her peers, Iris on the other hand, was the most popular girl in school. One day, when her boyfriend broke up with her Iris disappeared for 5 days, causing everyone in town to think she had been kidnapped. When she returned, the town decided the best punishment for her would be to put her on house arrest, they also assigned her a tutor, Alice, to help her with her studies. Only a few days later, Brooke, one of Iris’s old friends, goes missing at a house party and Alice is the last to see her. But after Iris’s fake kidnapping, the police don’t do much but offer a 50,000 reward for her finding. Iris, wanting the money to escape her house, works together with Alice to find out what happened to Brooke, and soon finds her body in the ocean. The police arrest her boyfriend and everyone moves on but Iris and Alice still think that it couldn’t have been that simple. After that, they discover many more secrets and go on dangerous explorations to find out what happened to Brooke, and eventually discover who killed her, and go on to work together on more mysteries to come.

This book was a very interesting and compelling story, that had so many twists and turns it was hard to keep track. Although the book was short, there was not a page where there wasn’t something exciting, or plot thickening that was being added to the story. Overall, the book left me speechless with the baffling ending and all the head-spinning twists and turns

I liked this book very much, I think it is good for anyone who likes mysteries, and books that are very action-packed with not a dull moment among the pages. I would also warn that this book has a lot of characters, changes and new backgrounds in characters, and a lot of changing plots and motivations. So it is a book I would recommend to strong readers who can put time into reading it slowly and understanding the plot.
