The Bridge by Jane Higgins (2/5)

Separated by the bridge, the hostiles attack and take over this barrier, planning to overrun those of the Cityside. Nik, the main character, has his city taken over by the hostiles, losing many of his close friends to the attack. He ventures to the Southside, the side of the hostiles, in order to find his friend Sol, who was kidnapped. We see Nik’s perspective on this journey, as he travels with Fyffe, Sol’s sister, and we learn more information about the southside. The teenagers build their identity and character along the way and build new bonds. During this read, I didn’t feel attached to the main story and felt the book progressed a little slowly. I also felt that some of the ideas that were projected were hard to understand, as there wasn’t enough context. I don’t think that I would recommend this book, but it wasn’t bad.
