Background Information: This book is titled The Cerulean and is the first book of the series The Cerulean. This first book talks about a young girl who is trying to follow her destiny to try to save her city. She meets many friends and comrades along the way, but she still experienced many hardships that have led to the downfall of this young girl's morale. Amy Ewig is trying to project a message by expressing that pushing someone out of their comfort zone can teach them more about themselves.

When living in a perfect utopian society in a floating city, the main character Sera Lighthaven has always felt that she is different than the rest of the people in her community. Sera lives in a city called the City Above the Sky where her people live in peace and harmony with each other. Ever since she was a little girl, Sera would always be curious about the world that her city was magically tethered to. Up till now, Sera has been waiting patiently for the tether to break and for them to move on to a different world. What Sera was unaware of was that she was chosen to be the one to change the city's fate. She was chosen to break the tether that binds the city and the world below. The journey that Sera has to take wasn’t easy and some decisions could lead to the downfall of Sera and the other people that she encounters on her journey.

Reaction: During the journey of reading this book, I thought that this book is very motivating because it explains that we should overcome our hardships and always keep pursuing our own destinies. I also believe that this book is very delightful because every chapter is a new scene in the story that illustrates the development of the main character and the supporting characters. Some things I would change in the book are to talk more about the tether and what type of magic it brings to the City Above the Sky and emphasize the roles of the city people. Other than that I agree with other readers that this book is very eye-catching and is a fantastic book to read. How this book affects me is that it taught me to always show courage and even though you are being stepped out of your comfort zone, you should still find the strength to be comfortable. This book has really emphasized the saying that I always listen to which is It is better to be out of your comfort zone than be inside your comfort zone.

Conclusion: Overall, I feel like this is an excellent book for readers that enjoy fantasy and people finding identity. This book should be rated a 4 because this story teaches so many life lessons and has impacted me in a way that can change the way I do things. As I said above, this story is such a mysterious and great novel to read and I hope you decide to read The Cerulean.
