The book starts off when Rich Cohen was taken to a Cubs game to be one of the sports reporters. At this point in time the Cubs were terrible and kept on losing on game after another. Cohen’s dad warned him to not become a cubs fan because it will ruin his life because they will never win. The young Cohen doesn't listen to his fathers advice and becomes a huge Cubs fan. As the book goes on Cohen revisits different times in history and different Cubs players through the years. One of the most famous moments he visits is the Game 4 of the 1945 World Series. Before the game starts, the owner of the tavern comes to the stadium with a goat named Murphy. There were complaints of the goat and it was forced to leave. As they left, someone cursed the Cubs by saying, “As long as the goat is not allowed into the park, the cubs will not win (Cohen 83). Another important part brought up by Cohen is the 2016 World Series. Game 7 was back and forth between both teams and they kept scoring. Suddenly as Cub’s fans thought we had the lead, Rajai Davis hits a homer. Cubs fans in shock do not know how to act. The cubs managed to turn it around and it came down to the last play. A weak ground ball to the third baseman, Kris Bryant. He threw across the diamond and the Cubs finally won. After 71 years the Chicago Cubs broke the curse. I thought this book was a very good read and it was really interesting seeing all the different parts of the Chicago Cubs history. After reading this I almost feel like a Cubs fan and I felt like I was a part of these moments in this book. Some advice I would give for reading this book is to not take it too seriously and don’t focus on one thing too much because this book is very descriptive and has lots of details about things that actually happened. Overall, I would recommend this book to a baseball fan who wants an interesting and easy read.
