The Crowns of Croswald: The Girl with the Whispering Shadow (4/5)

The Crowns of Croswald: The Girl with the Whispering Shadow, by D.E. Night, is a fantasy fiction novel that conveys the central theme of being able to find one's true identity and facing corrupt evil. The main character, Ivy Lovely, is a teenager that is the last alive royale that is set for the queenly line, is just barely knowledgable of who she is meant to be, and has been recently informed of her true identity. She sets out to find what is most valued in all of Croswald, the Kindred Stone, which holds great power and capabilities, after finding that she isn’t to return to her magical academy following an unfortunate and destructive appearance of the Dark Queen herself, a wicked and corrupt reigning monarch of the whole of Croswald. As Ivy attempts to recollect and reunite all three pieces of the Kindred Stone, she is shadowed by some source of lingering magic, and not the good kind. Ivy charges at many unpredicted yet enchanting events to come that bring her to be closer to figuring out her fate as well as herself through magically hidden towns, wise dwarves, her lineage, and a friend in need.

Upon concluding the novel, I found it simultaneously exhilarating as well as enchanting with its chain of events that are filled with action and adventure with a magical touch that collides to form great meaning and purpose in the end with unique twists throughout. I believe that D.E. Night’s intent for this book was to push through times of doubt with continuous persistence in addition to always looking for motivation and comfort even in the least likely places as it was portrayed through Ivy’s perspective and the storyline. I agree with Night’s opinions because even in the valleys of the worst circumstances, I feel that one can always work their way up relying not only on fate but the driving factors that people find at some point, as Ivy did.

Altogether, the distinct magical components of the second novel in this series provide much excitement and individuality throughout the story. It shares and illuminates the beauties of hardships and motivates the purpose of perseverance overall. I highly recommend reading this novel after the first, so there is no confusion and so the reader can understand the plot and more. The Crowns of Croswald: The Girl with the Whispering Shadow is truly a fantastic read that will lure the reader into an enchanting trance.
