The Dirty Little Secrets of Getting your Dream Job (3/5)

Updated: Sep 21

The book, “The Dirty Little Secrets of Getting your Dream Job,” by Don Raskin, provides guidelines and tips on how to construct your resume, how to take an interview, how to follow up with the interview, types of companies to avoid, how to get your desired salary, how to impress your bosses and coworkers once you land your job, how to get through your first performance review, and finally how to plan your career, the author, Don Raskin, uses stories and experiences from his time researching and interviewing potential job candidates, to give the do’s and don'ts you will need to land your dream job, this book will help on both your journey to get your dream job and also will help you to keep it. The book explains how your first and last impressions can make or break an interview and how you should show up to work a half hour early and late during your first 6 months of the job. The book also explains how you are an investment to a company and that the company is investing time and money into your future, because of this they expect you to put in 100% and show them you are willing to put in the effort to learn and improve. The book also explains just how important the impression that you leave on both your coworkers and interviewers is as even if you don't get a job, a position may open up further down the road. While I believe this book contained a lot of good information that will help me later on, the book was not very enjoyable to read as it quickly became dull and repetitive, i believe that this was because of the repetition that was used throughout the book, the book used very dull examples and topics that lacked anything that made me want to read more, on top of this, many of the same points were repeated throughout the book. This is why I gave the book a 3 as it was very informative and helpful, covering all the things you will need to get your dream job, however I did not find the book was not a very enjoyable read.
