To summarise, a teen hacker and coder is called upon to solve the mysteries and find the suspected man behind all the cases of suicide in the real world caused in the VirtNet. The VirtNet? An internet world that any human can sink into and play games as if it were real. So real that anyone in VirtNet can feel as if they were dying and come back to life in the next game. Perks for those in the Virtnet is being able to go from reality back into the VirtNet at any time. But this option is soon taken as soon as the hacker keeps many from returning to reality causing them and the world to go crazy. To stop this man, this teen hacker will need help from others if it is in his hands to save the virtual world from the guised hacker. That is when Michael and his friend start on “The Path”, a journey, to find out where this hacker could possibly be hiding. To point out, his important self-discovery at the end is what changes him most and potentially what could cause anyone to read the next novel in The Mortality Doctrine series.
In my opinion, this is a great book in the beginning and the suspense keeps you reading but the plot twist in the end isn't pleasant considering he is already attempting to save the world. And overall just made the cliffhanger of the series a little more confusing. To add on, I thought this novel didn’t have a good ending which is why I am glad it's over. But overlooking the last chapter, it was a fantastic novel that kept me thinking after reading a chapter. My favorite character was Bryson, he is a comedian and a cheerful friend to Michael and a character that kept a good balance in suspense and comedy. This book also encouraged me to start reading more often as well.
Basically the novel is great for any Sci-Fi lover trying to find a different take on technology and Virtual Reality. By the way, I advise you to not think too much about the last chapter if you are not willing to keep up with the rest of The Mortality Doctrine series.
