The Forgotten Five: Map of Flames by Lisa McMann (4/5)

Five kids, Birdie, Brix, Tenner, Seven, and Cabot, all with supernatural powers are abandoned in a hideout after the death of the last parent, Louis. All of their parents were once criminals in the city Estero, a place where supernaturals are shunned and outcast. Upon Louis’ dying wish, the five kids journey to Estero to find Birde’s mother and find the secret stash. While this book is exciting and intriguing, the beginning starts off a bit slow. By Part Two (the book is split into three parts) it gets interesting. The only thing about the style of the book is that it is written in third person omniscient. It will often change from one person to another mid chapter. It is important to pay attention to who’s point of view it is, otherwise you can not tell who words like “dad” refer to. Also this is the first book in a series.
