The Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse (4/5)

This book was about a Jewish girl illegally selling black market goods to other Germans in the city of Amsterdam. Her name was Hanneke and she was doing this to make a living and provide enough money for her Mom and Dad at home. This was during WW2, so she had to be very careful around soldiers and being out past curfew to not get caught and deported. One day when she was delivering goods to Mrs. Janssen, one of her clients, was asked to find a girl that disappeared mysteriously from her hiding place. Hanneke was hesitant about the dangers of this task, but she then decided to take on this job and went through many challenges and risked her life to look for this girl (“the girl in the blue coat”). She realized many things about the war and what people were doing to stop it, so she found her own way of fighting back at the Nazis, very determinedly. It was a great read! It gave me many surprises and interested me through the 200+ pages. All in all, I am glad that I chose this book to read, so you should read it too! I think many people of all ages will love how engaging and entertaining it is.
