This book, first of all, is about a world where an alien parasite takes over most of Earth, and they control humans and act like them. But, the story follows a parasite that can’t get a full control over it’s human, and they must work together to find the human’s boyfriend. This book was pretty good. At first, it’s a rough start to get into. Eventually though, you start to actually like the characters and start to get into the book. I did not finish the book, as it is very very long. I do like how they introduce characters, where the humans are very human and the parasites, are, well, parasitic. They act much different from people, which makes them actually feel alien to our minds, and how we know how people act, and this is not it. I find it quite impressive, that the author was able to take the nature of humans, and design a “species” that tries to act human, but is not perfect. I also like how the main characters work together, mostly the human and it’s parasite. I find it interesting that this powerful parasite cannot get a firm grasp on the human, but can still make do with what they have. All in all, this book is quite interesting, with many aspects of almost dystopian elements like control and government watch, but still not quite. It still has an alien feel to it, while books that cover dystopia are understandable and you can see how it would work. Meyers is very good at making the aliens, well, alien. This is capable through diction, character personality, and more. Once again, the book is not easy to get into, and to start enjoying. It is an extremely long read, so much that I could only get to the required page limit just in time. I am going to try to finish the book, so that I may see how it plays out and what happens, so I am quite interested to see where the book goes with the current events. I rate it a 4 out of 5, because it’s a tough but great read.
