The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins(4/5)

In a dystopian futuristic nation, there is a luxurious capital city with 12 surrounding districts laboring to support the needs of the city. After a rebellion years before, the Capitol hosts an annual fight to the death, a competition to prove their power over the districts called the Hunger Games. From each district, two tributes are chosen to fight to create a total of 24 competitors, all willing to do whatever it takes to survive. In district 12 Katniss Everdeen is horrified when her sister’s name is chosen the become a tribute. Without thinking, Katniss takes her sister’s place to fight alongside Peeta Mellark, one of her classmates. As they enter the games, Katniss and Peeta work to save themselves and ultimately each other from the wrath of the games. This book gave me a roller coaster ride of emotions with shocking twists heart-breaking sacrifices. I was surprised at how many emotions were packed into the book and how effectively they were conveyed. Readers will definitely become attached to the characters and root for Katniss and Peeta. I would definitely recommend this book to future readers and I recommend also reading the second book in the series which is every bit as captivating as the first book.
