The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (4/5)

The Inheritance Games is an amazing young adult mystery by Jennifer Lynn Barnes .The book starts with introducing the main character, Avery Grambs, a high school student in Connecticut. She lives from paycheck to paycheck with her sister Libby working long hours while still going to school. But one day she meets someone who notifies her that she has an inheritance from a man named Tobias Hawthorne, a Texas oil billionaire who she has no relation to. After the will is read everyone is left bamboozled. Avery has inherited the entire fortune. She is undoubtedly shocked. The book follows the adventures of Avery and Hawthorne’s grandsons to solve the puzzles and mysteries that he left behind. The Grandsons are a key part of the book. The oldest grandson is Nash who is 21 years old. The second oldest, Grayson, is 19 years old, he is the mature brother. After him is Jameson, 18 years old who is the second most important character. And finally Xander the youngest brother. Many characters have a deep dive into the emotional and personal problems that they face from their past. This book is pretty great, it has a great plot and character development. The puzzles keep you on your toes the whole book, it isn't boring for a page. During much of the book Avery has to deal with the drawbacks of fame and wealth, mostly from Libby’s boyfriend, and how they have to be dealt with. It does a great job of exploring how people deal with guilt and death. Each character has a developed backstory. The Inheritance Games is an overall good book with many lessons and explorations of human nature. Jennifer Lynn Barnes makes this book interesting for everyone by thinking 5 steps ahead. I enjoyed this book even though it isn't my preferred book genre. All in all, this book is pretty great. ⅘ is the appropriate rating for this book because it is very fun to read and deep with its explorations of people's motives and personal problems. While it could be better I still absolutely recommend that you read this book. In fact, you should read the whole series, the other two books add so much to the story and finish it well. As a final statement, you should read this book and the sequels, it will be enjoyable for anyone no matter your taste.
