The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns by Chris Colfer (3/5)

The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns is a young-adult fantasy book by Chris Colfer. It is a continuation of the first book, The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell. The book teaches the reader to be courageous for the greater good, even if they might be afraid. The book follows Alex and Connor Bailey once again through the Land of Stories, after their mother is suddenly kidnapped by the evil enchantress, Ezmia. With some help from old friends, the twin siblings must save their mother and the fairy-tale world before they are both destroyed by Ezmia.

Just like the previous installment to the series, The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns is interesting because it continues classic Disney tales in clever ways. I like how Colfer tied all of the stories in an engaging way, while patching any plot holes that come with his complex universe. However, I do not enjoy certain chapters in this book due to their slow pace and lack of entertainment. Compared to some of the other chapters in this book, these chapters seem rather unnecessary to include and are very boring. This same issue can be seen in some of the Harry Potter books, where the first half is very slow whereas the second half is fast-paced and filled with action.

In conclusion, I think The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns is a mediocre book. I think this because it accomplished similar aspects that the first book did, but it just was not as strong and entertaining as it. Although some of the chapters are not as fun to read, the intriguing chapters definitely make up for its loss. This book is another read for Disney fans all around the world who grew up watching/reading these famous stories. I would recommend that anyone interested in reading this book to watch the Disney tales covered in this series, if they have not already (or as a recap). I would also recommend reading The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell, as this book is a continuation of that book.
