The Last Star by Rick Yancey (4/5)

The Last Star, written by Rick Yancey, is the last book in the trilogy, and starts where The Infinite Sea left off. Ringer escaped the base and ran into the woods, but then decided to go back because she realized that she needed to kill Evan Walker in order to save her friends. She went back to the camp and Vosch sent her and a lady named Constance to the caverns to look for Evan. All the other characters (Cassie, Ben, and everyone else) were all living in a dead Silencer’s house. A Silencer is the name given to a human with a program downloaded into their brain that makes them think they have an alien consciousness inside of them. The Silencers have also been enhanced with the 12th system, which makes them very strong and fast. Ben takes Dumbo with him to go looking for Teacup and Ringer at the caverns, and they have to cross through Urbana. Dumbo gets shot by a Silencer so Ben goes and kills it. He has to leave Dumbo there because of Dumbo’s injuries, and plans to come back for him on his way back from the caverns. Ben makes it to the caverns and finds Constance and Ringer. They go back to the house, but on their way they discover that Dumbo has died because of his gunshot wound. When they get there, Constance takes Sammy hostage because she wants Evan Walker, but Sammy shoots her. A helicopter comes and starts attacking them, so Evan surrenders himself and they take him away. Another helicopter comes to finish them off, but they hijack it and take it to the caverns. From there, Ringer and Cassie fly to the base. They infiltrate the base and Cassie flies up to the alien spaceship in a pod with a bomb, and blows up the spaceship. This book was very good and I would certainly recommend this to other kids at my school. My advice to future readers would be to read the two books that come before this because they explain a lot, and you would not understand this book without them.
