The Last Victim by Jason Moss (4.5/5)

As Jason reads his first letter from serial killer, John Wayne Gacy, Jason explains “[his] initial elation now gave way to a certain anxiety” (Moss, 58). This real-life read is guaranteed to leave you uneasy and on the edge of your seat throughout the unveiling twists and turns as it gets more and more uncomfortable. This is the true story of Jason Moss and his journey on communicating with the world’s most gruesome serial killers. Jason’s new interest in contacting serial killers has created more problems than you can fathom. As the story progresses, Jason quickly becomes obsessed with writing serial killers on their deathbed. After starting off as an innocent idea of wanting to write a serial killer, Jason turns this story into a real-life “Silence of the Lambs.” His new obsession quickly changes his life and causes knots in his real relationships with his girlfriend, parents, and even his own brother. No one understands Jason’s fixation for writing and communicating with these killers, not even the readers. Although I enjoyed this deep, dark, and twisted read, I wouldn’t recommend it to all. This book gets deep into the horror and fantizations of real-life serial killers. This book discusses the ins and outs of the grossing minds of a molester and murderer. If you have the stomach and interest for getting a peek into the true correspondence with a serial killer and an obsessed young adult, then I recommend this read. It is easy to pick up and read for hours, as its constant turning of new corners entices the reader. If you don’t have the stomach to dive deep into the headspace of John Wayne Gacy and other serial killers, I recommend starting with a fiction horror story or checking out Netflix’s long list of FAKE horror movies.
